Rodriguez recently blew away the previously undefeated George Tahdooahnippah in half dozen rounds when he was last on Friday Night Fights. The fight in all probability should have been stopped earlier, but because it stands that win created Rodriguez look terribly sensible.

However, this could be tempered with the acknowledgment that in his previous fight against Austin Trout, Rodriguez failed for the second time to win a world title. So while Rodriguez is good — arguably a prime 10 light middleweight — he’s by no means elite.

That isn’t to say that he can’t win a world title, but it's to mention he’d most likely have a ton a lot of luck fighting against an Ishe Smith than a Canelo. So perhaps once a pair of or three straight wins, he would possibly realize himself back in title competition.

Watch Vernon Paris vs Manuel Perez Online

Watch Vernon Paris vs Manuel Perez Online at 10:00PM ET / 7:00PM PT On 10/5/2013

When last we saw Paris, the then-hot prospect was being taken apart and outclassed by Zab Judah. Finally, he was stopped in Round 9. With that loss, all hype died from Paris’ career.

Looking back at the fight, it’s now apparent that Judah was simply too much of a step up for Paris. In a recent fight, Judah gave current unified world titlist Danny Garcia all he might handle. Paris, meanwhile, has solely ever had 3 notable wins: Tim Coleman, Courtney Burton, and Juan Santiago. All these fighters are career journeymen and were nowhere suited to giving Paris the preparation to take on Judah.

Perez, then, is the perfect fighter to resuscitate Paris’ career. His career highlight is holding Brandon Rios to a draw, though he later lost the rematch. Perez also has wins over Jose Miguel Cotto, Edgar Santana, Aaron Melgarejo, and Victor Barela. As for recent losses, they were all to well known fighters: Paul McCloskey, Mercito Gesta, Diego Magdaleno, Brandon Rios, and Matt Remillard.
